Expressway Da Nang-Quang Ngai, a leading traffic project in the central region of Vietnam, is to be constructed in 2011, Deputy-General Director of Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Co (VEC), Mai Tuan Anh said in his recent meeting with Quang Ngai authorities.
Capitalized at VND 29.2 trillion (over US$ 1.5 billion), the 131.49 km-route -on the west of the National Highway and the North – South Railway - will run from Da Nang city to two provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.
Designed at 4-lane dual carriageway expressway standard with 26 m wide and speed of 120 km per hour, the expressway - the largest section in the National Project of the North – South Expressway - is to support social and economic development, as measured by reduced road transit times, tariffs, safety risks, and by the efficient operation and management of the national expressway network.
Ministry of Transport assigned VEC as the main investor of this project under BOO method (Building-Operating-Owning) in order to create favorable condition for raising investment capital.
The project fund is mobilized by loans from the World Bank - WB (US$ 576 million, 38.4%), the Japan International Cooperation Agency - JICA (US$ 725 million, 48.3%) and the Vietnam counterpart fund (US$ 200 million, 13.3%).
With a two-section construction within 4 years, the project will be parallel financed with JICA, who will finance the section from Da Nang to Tam Ky (65kms). WB will finance Tam Ky to Quang Ngai (66kms) and the Government will fund project management, land acquisition and resettlement costs.

As released by VEC leaders, over 9.6 million sqr.m and over 66,300 sqr.m of housing area will be taken back for the expressway.
In Quang Ngai, the expressway will cover 40 km through out 11 communes of 4 districts: Binh Son, Son Tinh, Tu Nghia and Nghia Hanh. 1,896 households will be effected and 377 others to be relocated. Total fund for land acquisition is estimated at 500 billion VND.
